In 1975, John went on active duty at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, for four and a half months to attend The Command and General Staff College. John advanced through the ranks over the years. John said "If you are going to be in something you might as well be something." John went on active duty at Fort Benning Georgia for Officer Candidate School in 1961 and graduated to become a 2nd lieutenant. While employed at Freeman Hospital he was elected twice as President of the Show-Me of Missouri Chapter of the Hospital Financial Management Association.Īt the age of 17 John joined the Missouri National Guard in Webb City, Missouri. John retired from Ozark Center in January 1995. John was the Chief Fiscal Officer for Raye and Company Transport in Carthage, Missouri, Freeman Hospital, Southwestern Sash and Door Company and Ozark Center of Joplin, Missouri. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in January 1965. John continued his education, part time, at Kansas State College of Pittsburg. He went to Joplin Junior College for two years on a football scholarship and graduated in 1960. He was co-captain of the football team, President of the "W" Club and President of the Student Council, first semester. John graduated from Webb City High School in 1958. He also had three great-grandchildren, Caden, Addison, and Claire. Dhar (Emily) of Carl Junction, Missouri, Christina Dhar of Joplin and James Weaver of Racine. This marriage produced two daughters Melinda Jean Dhar of Joplin and Cynthia Lee (Daniel) Weaver of Racine, Missouri. They married on March 19, 1960, in Joplin, Missouri. John was preceded in death by the love of his life, Carole Elizabeth (Kelley) Powell. ![]() (deceased), Spencer Dale Powell and David Earl Powell of Webb City, Missouri. His parents were Robert Eugene Powell and Eunice Marie (Sullivan) Powell now deceased. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Lou York two daughters, Patty Moss (Mike) of Carl Junction and Alicia Childers of Seneca five grandchildren, Rob Moss (Brandie), Ryan Moss (Allie), Art Sprouse (Katie), Caleb Childers and Cody Childers seven great-grandchildren a brother, Harold York sisters-in-law, Wanda York, Mildred York, Juanita James and Lena Mae Fanning brother-in-law, Gene Fanning (Sue) numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents three siblings, Dean York, Wayne York and Bonnie Fanning and two brothers-in-law, Bill James and Bud Fanning. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Glenn was a faithful member of South Joplin Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. He also volunteered as a driver for Joplin Association for the Blind. Glenn was a member of the Joplin Senior Center where he often played pool and participated in field trips. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. Glenn was a career machinist and worked in small precision tooling. On May 20, 1956, Glenn was united in marriage to Mary Lou Fanning and together they had two daughters. He was a 1952 graduate of Golden City High School. Glenn was born March 11, 1934, in Jasper, Missouri, to the union of the late Hugh and Faye (Bird) York. ![]() Glenn York, 86, of Joplin, passed away September 16, 2020. ![]()
